An ancient temple, Surya temple is a most popular scared place in Nalanda just located beside the University premises. Dedicated to the Sun God, it kept the idols of many Hindu gods and goddess. The main attraction of this temple is five feet high idol of Goddess Parvati. Today, it has become the major tourist attraction in Nalanda. Besides it, there are several beautiful statues of Buddhist and Hindu deities in this temple. The main presiding idol of this place is goddess Pravati.
Thousands of devotees visit to this temple to see famous Chhath Puja sun worship which is held twice a year in "Vaishakha" and "Kartika" at Surya Temple. Also known with another name is Surajpur Baragaon, it is combines with most popular Buddhist deities. Besides it, it has flourished with exceptional architecture that is simply alluring.
