Eravikulam National Park
This is park is located at a distance of 15 Kms from north of Munnar which is regarded as one of the wettest regions of the world with an average rainfall of 4500 mm. This wildlife sanctuary is famous in the world for its ecological, faunal, floral, geomorphological and zoological significance. However, this wildlife sanctuary was being announced as the national park in 1978 having the varieties of flora and fauna like rolling grasslands, tigers, panther, sloth bear, wild boar, etc.
Idukki Wildlife Sanctuary
This wildlife sanctuary of Kerala is famous for the rare varieties of flora and fauna living on the tropical regions like white pine, kuntherekka pine, palai, maravuri, vayana etc. The varieties of fauna are reptiles and mammals like elephant, deer, bear, cobra, viper, Rat Snake, hornbill, kingfisher etc. This sanctuary is accessible Airport which is at a distance of 143 Kms, Kumarakom railway station at a distance of 114 Kms and Kumily town at distance of 4 Kms.
Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary
This sanctuary of Kerala is situated on the banks of Vembanad Lake which is regarded as paradise for ornithologist where a varieties of birds are found like the woodpecker, skylark, crane, water hen and parrots. The best time to visit this sanctuary is between June and August and for migratory birds the months of November to February are best to see the varieties of migratory birds coming from different parts of the world.
Wynad Wildlife Sanctuary
This park is also known as Muthanga Wildlife Sanctuary which is located at a distance of 16 Kms from Sultan’s Battery and is surrounded by many other sanctuaries like Bandipur National Park, Mudumalai Wildlife Sanctuary, Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve etc. that make the Kerala tourism rich for its preservation of its tigers and leopards and a number of other animals.
Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary
This sanctuary of Kerala is located in the lapse of Western Ghats famous for its picturesque lake which provides a permanent source of water for the local wildlife. This is also a major source of attraction for the tourists the elephants’ act of ablution and playfulness. Some other attractions of the Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary are Kumily which is famous for the excellent hotels and resorts for accommodation, Cradomom Hills, Boat Cruises etc.
Silent Valley National Park
The Silent Valley comprises of India’s last substantial stretch of tropical evergreen which is contiguous with the proposed Karimpuzha National Park to the north and Mukurthi National Park to the north-east. The Silent Valley National Park also served as the core of the Nilgiri International Biosphere Reserve and is a part of the Western Ghats World Heritage Site, Nilgiri Sub-Cluster under consideration by UNESCO.
Thattekad Bird Sanctuary
This bird sanctuary is a rare haven in Kerala formed between the branches of River Periyar along with picturesque landscapes, the tropical evergreen forests and grassland pathces. This Thattekad bird sanctuary is designed by Dr. Salim Ali, a renowned ornithologist who had given the recommendation to the Government to preserve the rare birds.
Parambikulam Wildlife Sanctuary
This sanctuary of Kerala is famous for the reservoir of gaur (bison) along with other animals like sambar, spotted deer, jungle cat, lion-tailed macaque, common otter, sloth bear etc. living in thickly forested with stands of bamboo, sandalwood, rosewood and teak etc. This sanctuary is also famous for the teak forests which is regarded as the largest in Asia.
Idukki Wildlife Sanctuary
This wildlife sanctuary of Kerala is famous for the rarest inhabitation of animals like Elephants, bisons, bear, wild boars, sambar etc. located just above the arch dam and spread in the area of 70 sq. Kms of the forest land in between the Periyar and Cheuthoni Rivers.
Chinnar Wildlife Sanctuary
Propinquity to Eravikulam National Park and Anamalai Wildlife Sanctuary in Tamil Nadu makes Chinnar rich in wildlife. This sanctuary is easily accessible from Udumalpet in Tamil Nadu and Munnar in Kerala.
Aralam Wildlife Sanctuary
Elephants, sloth bear, sambar, mouse-deer etc. are the major animlas of Aralam Wildlife Sancturay. It is also rich in avifauna and reptiles. This sanctuary is easily accessible from Kannur.
Peppara Wildlife Sanctuary
The Kerala tour tp Peppara Wildlife Sanctuary makes the tour unforgettable which is accessible from Vithurai on Thiruvananthapuram - Ponmudi road. Neyyar Wildlife Sanctuary
This wildlife sanctuary is famous for varieties of tropical wet evergreen flora and fauna that include the evergreen grasslands, elephants, bear, jungle cat, Nilgiri langur etc. along with crocodile rearing centre, deer farm and lion safari park.
Peechi-Vazhani Wildlife Sanctuary
This wildlife sanctuary of Kerala lies in the catchment areas of Peechi and Vazhani dams in Trichur District from where sanctuary is 15 Km by road from Trissur.
Nagarhole Wildlife Sanctuary
This wildlife sanctuary of Kerala is located at a distance of 40 km from Mananthavady from where the tourists can pick up only jeep ans trucks to reach the Nagarhole Wildlife Sanctuary. The rest house facility is provided by PWD Rest House.
