Juna Mahal Palace
The pristine white Juna Mahal Palace is the main attraction of Dungarpur that is a seven-storeyed palace. It was built in the 13th century when a few members of the Mewar dynasty split and found a new kingdom here. It resembles a fort more than a palace and popularly referred to as the Old Palace. It has been constructed with beautiful interiors: crenellated walls, turrets and narrow passages. The intention behind this type of interior is to slow down the attacking enemy. Moreover, the interiors are wonderful with wall paintings, glass and mirror work and miniature paintings. It is believed that the maharaja kept 50 scenes from the Kama Sutra painted in a closet in his private suite. The walls and ceilings of the palace are covered with scenes from Dungarpur’s history that portraits the story of the erstwhile princes, dating from the 16th to the 18th century.
