Darjeeling Toy Train
The Darjeeling Toy Train is acclaimed first UNESCO’s endorsement as a World Heritage icon that gives a romantic approach to the Himalayas, a mysterious region. Started in 1999 in September 1881, toy train covers spectacular views to enjoy this city. The journey begins from Siliguri and at Chunamandi passes through bazaars, comes to its z-crossing or reversing, leaving a long-lasting memory to the visitor in order to achieve higher elevation.
The journey of this joy ride starts at New Jalpaiguri, a busy railway station in the plains. As this train climbing high on the mountain, the temperature is rising up and the climate gets colder. Consequently, it is advisable to wear warm clothes according to the present climate. It boasts of 3 first class coaches and a B class locomotive, still being used by the DHR built between 1889 and 1925.
The first proposal was taken by Franklin Prestage, an agent of the East Bengal Railway Company. His initiative was eventually accepted by the authorities in 1879 the construction began in the same year. The officially inauguration of the first route to Darjeeling was held in 1881.
