The enchanting Marina Beach is the most popular second longest beach in the world famed as the pride of Chennai. The beach spreads over a distance of 12 km and has a significantly large width. It starts from St. George Fort, in the north side, and enlarges till Besant Nagar, in the south side. This sandy beach is not only famous amongst the morning joggers, but is also a most exciting spot for the tourists.
It has a wide sandy foreshore where one can see an aquarium on the Marina Beach. Moreover, statues of heroes are established on this beach which tributes to Tamil culture and Samadhi of great leaders like Anna and MGR here. The most exciting part of this beach is its natural fresh air with scenery surroundings. The road side linked with this beach has been marked by a number of statues of known leaders and celebrities such as Mahatma Gandhi, Thiruvalluvar, Sir Thomas Munro, Kamarajar, Periyar and the Statue of Labor.
Besides it, you will find a beautiful amusement park and a memorial which is dedicated to MGR Ramachandran, former beautiful actor-cum-Politian. This tomb in the memorial has a remarkable pillar and an eternal flame. Moreover, there is an artificial water fountain in marina beach and a park to add to its splendor.
To the south, the beach is marked by a Light House which provides a fabulous view of the city.
