Varanasi is one of the oldest living cities in the world known to the devout as Kashi that has been founded by Shiva, Lord of the Universe. It is also one of the most important pilgrimage sites in India famed as major tourist attraction across the world. It is placed on the banks of the sacred Ganges and become a hub of learning and civilization for over 2000 years.
According to historians, the city was founded around ten centuries before the birth of Christ. The city was based on Holy Scriptures like 'Vamana Purana', Buddhist texts and the 'Mahabharata'. According to Hindu religious legends, it is one of the holiest of Indian cities known as Kashi or the city of light, the abode of Lord Shiva. Over a million pilgrims every year, the city breathes upon traditional Hindu religion and culture. Additionally, Varanasi is a scared place that is blessed with most creative processes like philosophy, religion, the arts and craftsmanship.
Besides it, there are numerous ghats along the Ganga and to reach there, one
can take rickshaws, cycles, autorickshaws, pedestrians and even cattle.
