Culture Tour of Goa

Meeting and assistance upon arrival at Goa port (your guide will be waiting for you at the EXIT GATE of port, having a placard and your name written on it ) & drive to Ancestral Goa. Ancestral Goa is 04th centuries of Portuguese rule and that of other rulers before them has given Goa a unique life-style that consists of a blend of Indian and Western influences as can be seen in its varied culture and architecture of its towns and villages. Today Goa also boasts of glorious traditions that have been handed down to it over the ages.

Ancestral Goa is miniature Goan Village as it would have existed 100 years ago. It is located on a nine acre verdant hillock at Loutulim INS South Goa, about ten kilometers from Margao.

An incarnation of Lord Vishnu, Parashuram shot the legendary arrow into the bosom of the Indian Ocean resulting in the emotive paradise known as Goa. The visitor is treated to a sight of Parashuram at the entrance itself, all ready with the proverbial bow & arrow.

Now we drive 30 Kms from Ancestral Goa to the Shasta Durga Temple. Shree Shantadurga temple has an impressive idol of Goddess Shree Durga who mediated between Shree Vishnu and Shree Shiva and stopped the fierce full war going on between the two. She is flanked by Vishnu and Shiva on both the sides.

The temples of Shree Shantadurga and Shree Mangesh, two of the most revered patron deities of the Hindu Goud Saraswat Brahmin community are located in Kavlem and Mangeshi respectively in the Ponda district of North Goa.

Mangueshi Temple, a 400-year-old temple dedicated to the goddess Shiva and noted for its beautiful pillars. Your guide will tell you about Hinduism and the temple’s important role in the community.

We drive to the Spice Village which is located at NH4A, Curti, and 3.5 km from the Shantadurga Temple at Kavlem and 1.5 km from Ponda. It is famous for its farms and grows many fruits. One of the most unique spices grown here is vanilla. The farm is spread over 130 acres.  On arrival we have a magnificent lunch at Sahakari Spice Plantation.

Than we visit the round of the plantation the farm has been developed using the new scientific techniques in conjunction with the age-old concepts of mixed crop farming. New and scientific techniques like the use of Sprinklers for irrigation are used in the farm to recreate the climatic conditions prevailing in the rainy season. These scientific methods coupled with older water harvesting methods help in water conservation to a very large extent. Later we drive back to the Port.
