Ajatshatru fort is one of the prominent attractions of Rajgir which was built in 6th century B.C by Ajatshatru, the king of Magadha during the Buddha's time. Constructed in the 6th Century BC, it has four corners and each corner is covered with stone tower & walls is about 60 Meter long & 2 Meter broad square.
The historians have stated that King Ajatshatru of 6th Century BC kept this father Bimbisara in a small prison inside his fort. It is believed that Lord Buddha resided in this temple in the same time of construction. This place has been chosen by King Bimbisara in his last years of life to see Lord Buddha before going to Gridh Koot Parvat daily morning. Besides it, Ajatshatru’s Stupa is placed inside it.
