Ranganathittu Bird Sanctuary
The Ranganathittu Bird Sanctuary is the biggest and largest national sanctuary of Mussoorie set on the bank of River Kaveri which is situated located about 5 km away from Srirangapatna. This national park covers a 57 acres area renowned as a home to the birds, animals and species. For bird lovers, it is the best destination where around 200 species of birds are to be seen. Besides it, it shelters herons, egrets, and white ibis, little cormorants, dantes, open billed stork etc.
It is a group of small islands in the Cauvery River which spans an area of 0.67sq.km offers you to watch a variety of exotic animals and reptiles. Here, one can enjoy enjoying a few mammals such as fruit bats, bonnet macaques, palm civets, common mongoose and common otters. Designed with huge bamboo surroundings, the entrance has winding path providing you a splendid opportunity to pass by. Some pictures and imprinted words are pasted on the entrance provides few information about the nature and behavior of the exotic animals.
The maximum population of this national park is Marsh crocodiles which are found in different breeds and other varieties. A lake is situated near this sanctuary where one will find a small canteen. It is advisable to visit there in-between May September and October. It is considered the best spot for those who love nature and animals. Choose early hours to visit to this sanctuary when crowd is rather low.
