Gateway of India
Gateway of India is the most popular landmark in Mumbai, built with yellow colored basalt architecture style. It is 26 meters long with an inner width of 15 meters. It is one of the finest monuments of 16th century that lies in the style of Indo-Saracen. It shows the Muslim architecture brilliance that attracts a large number of tourists all over the world.
Gateway of India is the biggest attraction of Mumbai which has boosted the tourism of Mumbai located on the harbor in the southern part of the city. It has many domes in which central dome of this monument has 15 m in diameter whereas its peak has an attitude of 26m from the surface. The Government of India was contributed an estimated cost of 21 lakh in the construction of this monument. Then Governor of Bombay, Sir George Sydenham Clarke has founded gateway of India in 1911.
On December 4, 1924, the visiting of the people was at final opened by the Viceroy, the Earl of Reading. After India got independent, British have gone away through their ship board heading for England. Still, it is maintained its beauty to draw the attention of every tourist. This monument has Inscription imprinted which memorizes the chronological occasion of the King's arrival.
