Wildlife Sanctuary
Peppara
is accessible from Vithurai on Thiruvananthapuram Ponmudi road. This sanctuary
with its rich fauna and birds is emerging as a big attraction to wildlife enthusiasts.
It is spread over an area of 53 Sq. km. on the Western Ghats. 
Main
attractions: Elephants, sambar deer, leopards and lion tailed macques.
Neyyar
Sanctuary
The Neyyar
sanctuary is spread over the Southeast corner of the Western Ghats, and covers
a total area of 128 sq kms. The Neyyar reservoir is easily navigable and extends
9.06 sq. km., offering boat safaris. The landscape is breathtakingly beautiful,
reminiscent of Periyar, and the boat ride through narrow channels, past islands
and along woodlands can be exciting.
The sanctuary has a remarkable diversity of vegetation. There are over 1000 species
of flowering plants, including some of the best orchids in the world. The faunal
diversity is rich and fascinating. There is a Lion Safari Park spanning an area
of four hectares and a Crocodile Farm established in 1977. The Crocodile Breeding
Centre is the main attraction here, set up here by the Government of India.

Attraction: Elephants, tigers, bear, gaur, deer, wild boar, leopards, wild
dogs, sloth bears, jungle cats, sambars, elephants, gaurs, spotted deers but most
visitors return after seeing only lion-tailed macaque and Nilgiri Langur.
