The history of old Goa can be dated back to the 15th Century when it was parts of the Vijaynagara and Bahmani Kingdoms. Adil Shah made the Old Goa his capital of Bijapur. However, the city of old Goa was conquered by the Portuguese which later on became the administrative seat of the Portuguese India. It was during this time of the western rule that old Goa was influenced by the missionaries and many churches of Goa came into existence and are recognized by the UNESCO as the World Heritage Sites.
