Indian Embassy in Sana, Yemen and the Embassy of Yemen are the result of indo-Yemeni relations dated back to ancient period. Both the Embassy of India and Embassy of Yemen consolidating the old and historical ties of their respective countries where thousands of Yemeni origin are residing in India and thousands of Indian origin are residing in Yemen. India was one of the first countries to recognize Yemen as an independent sovereign state during the Prime Ministership of Jawaharlal Nehru in 1962. However, Indian Embassy in Sana, Yemen was established in 1970 and after that many high level meetings and Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) were signed to deepen the diplomatic relations. Both Embassy of India and Embassy of Yemen are also working towards maintaining the cordial relations as both India and Yemen are members of Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) and Indian Ocean Rim - Association for Regional Cooperation (IOR-ARC).
