The working of Indian Embassy in Dar Es Salam, Tanzania and Tanzanian Embassy in India is the result of an age old relations between India and Tanzania characterized by cooperation and strong mutual understanding. So, the relations between Indian Embassy and Tanzanian Embassy can be traced back to the 2000 years ago when the Indian travelers visited this land of Tanzania in lakhs through Indian Ocean. Even Mahatma Gandhi halted in Dar Es Salam during his journey to South Africa in 1890. However, the fist diplomatic relations between India and Tanzania were developed during the Prime Ministership of Jawaharlal Nehru in 1961. The relations between the Embassy of India in Tanzania and Embassy of Tanzania in India further deepened when the first President of Tanzania Julius Kambarage Nyerere admired Jawaharlal Nehru's vision and joined NAM. Both the Embassy of India and Embassy of Tanzania are also promoting the culture and tourism of their respective countries.
