Relations between Embassy of India in Manila, Philippines and Embassy of Philippines in India are cordial and friendly and could be traced back to ancient period of Malay Culture, the confluence of indo-Islamic culture. There are much evidence like coinage of Indian origin, Sanskrit words, and trade relations which authenticated the relations between India and Philippines. However, formal diplomatic relations between India and Philippines are established just after India got independence in 1947. During the Prime Ministership of Jawaharlal Nehru, Indian Embassy in Philippines was opened in 1949. Both Embassy of India in Philippines and Embassy of Philippines share much in common and have signed several agreements, treaties and Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) since the inception of diplomatic relations which deepened the relations between Embassy of India and Embassy of Philippines. Both Indian Embassy in Philippines and Philippians Embassy in India are promoting the tourism and culture of respective countries and have signed an Agreement on Cooperation in the Field of Tourism and MoU on Cooperation in the Field of Agriculture and Related Fields.
