Ottawa where Embassy of India is located is the capital of Canada and the country's fourth largest municipality. Ottawa, the second largest city and is a municipality within the Province of Ontario. Indian Embassy in Ottawa is consolidating the bilateral relations which were developed by the first Indian Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru and two Canadian Ministers who served during those years: Louis St. Laurent and Lester B. Pearson. The diplomatic relations between Delhi and Ottawa are characterized by distinct warmer and cooler periods because both these countries share fundamental values of democracy – parliament, courts, civil services, political parties, elections, secularism, commitment to international peace and security etc. Along with these commonalities there exists a strong socio-cultural bond between the two countries emanating from an estimated 1,000,000 Canadians of Indian origin. In the past five decades India has been one the largest recipients of Canadian bilateral aid, amounting to over $ 3.8 billion Canadian dollars. Ottawa has been ranked sixth in the world in terms of quality of life which also attracted tourists from all over the world for golfing, fishing, hiking, skiing, and many other outdoor adventures and wilderness activities, hundreds of lakes, and bicycle paths provide ample natural amenities within the Capital area.
