Dundlod is a small village which is situated in the heart of the Shekhawati region of Rajasthan. It is covered with lots of forts, havelis, and baolis that will remind you the golden days of golden era. It extends between latitude 28.06° in the north and longitude 75.20° in the east. One can be reached by road from Delhi, Jaipur, and Bikaner very easily.
Dundlod is a tiny village lying about seven km north that was built in 1750 by Keshari Singh, the fifth and youngest son of a Rajput ruler Sardul Singh. During 19th century, some major additions were made in the early by his descendant Sheo Singh. Members of the wealthy Goenka merchant family also settled at Dundlod. Today, the prosperity is shown in their richly painted havelis here. The beautiful chhatri of Ram Dutt Goenka was built by Ram Chandra Goenka in 1888.
BEST TIME TO VISIT
The best time to visit this place is between Octobers to March. Like other cities in northern part of India, Dundlod too has extreme climate.
A cluster of forts and palaces defines cultural amalgamation of the Rajputana and Mughal Schools of Art and Architecture. Its is spotted with flowers and foliage, minarets and the walls and ceilings are adorned with mythological paintings, archaic furniture, wall hangings of arrows.
Dundlod Fort is a wonderful spendour which is blessed with an eternal blessing to this land of mystique and charisma.
The Diwan Khana is another beautiful fort that has built in the Mughal architectural style and is furnished with Louis the XIV furniture. It has a brilliant library offering a very rich collection of ancient books on Indian history.
The Tuganram Goenka Haveli is often locked but tourists are allowed to watch its fine mirror work above the windows on the upper walls of the courtyard. It also has finest preserved paintings under the eaves mostly that encompass portraits in round frames. One can see how the artist sketched the drawings and Pictures of an elephant, a camel and its rider, and a horse.
There are some other attractions in Dundlod are the Jagathia Haveli and Satyanarayan Temple.
FAIRS & FESTIVALS
Gangaur festival is celebrated in the month of March where one can enjoy a horse show in Dundlod. It is quite a good occasion for the people having interest in horses.
